I am ecstatic to host my wonderful friend and fabulous author Deb Raney. I won’t say how many years we’ve shared this writing journey, but each one has been better with Deb as part of it. Many of you probably know Deb through her social media, conferences, etc. so you know what a genuinely wonderful person and brilliant author she is.

So let’s hear from Deb in her own words:

The final book in my Chicory Inn Novels series is (finally!) finished and on my editor’s desk. The book feels aptly titled: HOME AT LAST! I always cry at the end of writing a book, but I must admit that “the end” on this series came with more than a few tears! These characters have been living with me almost 24/7 for the last three and a half years, and I’ve grown to love them dearly!

Close to Home

Bree Cordel Whitman is a Whitman by marriage, but sometimes she forgets she wasn’t born into Grant and Audrey’s family. Her late husband, Timothy Whitman, gave his life for his country on a windblown hill in Afghanistan. Bree has let the love of Tim’s family keep her ties to him strong—in the same way she keeps Tim’s memory alive for them. But it’s been almost five years, and she can’t hang onto the past forever.

Fighting the guilt she feels for wanting to love again, she can’t help her dreams about a tall, dark, and handsome man—a man who is not her Tim. How can she accept the flirtations from Drew Brooks without throwing the Whitman family back into grieving? And how can Drew compete with the ghost of a hero and the hero’s very alive family who seem to hold some spell over the woman who shares their name . . . a woman he might just love?

Book 4, Close to Home, will release this June and the final book comes out early next year. I’m so pleased with the covers for this series. I think the progression from day to night in the cover lineup, is brilliant, and I’m so thankful for the cover designer at Abingdon Press. Here are the release dates for all five books in the series:

And just for fun, here’s a link to my Pinterest board for the Chicory Inn Novels, including some wonderful photos of the area in Southeast Missouri where my novels are set, images of how I envision The Chicory Inn and some of my characters houses to look. You’ll also see the beautiful covers (different from the original novels) that are on the large-print and Dutch editions of the first three books.

And here’s a sneak peek at my full cast of characters. I’m a very visual writer and have to have images of my characters to refer to as I get to know them. These are the images I used to give the characters in my head “flesh and bones.” I’m not going to label them because there will be spoilers if I do! But if you’ve read the first three books in the series, I bet you’ll be able to guess who’s who. Hint: They are somewhat in chronological order of the age of the siblings in the book. (But that’s all I’m sayin’ for now!)

Deb RaneyDEBORAH RANEY’s first novel, A Vow to Cherish, inspired the World Wide Pictures film of the same title and launched Deb’s writing career. Twenty years, thirty books, and numerous awards later, she’s still creating stories that touch hearts and lives. She and husband, Ken, recently traded small-town life in Kansas for life in the city of Wichita.

Here’s the Stop #19 Skinny:
You can order Deb’s book on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, CBD or at your local bookstore!
